Which processor for an RTX 2060?

Console-priced gaming PC — €500

Our first prize for video game is a configuration that does not directly compete with the latest generation performance consoles, but allows to have a suitable machine more or less at the same prices.

The only big change is the switch to a Core i3 9100F, whose price is interesting, especially since the previous Ryzen 3 1200 is now too old and much less powerful. We change SSD to a more modern Crucial BX500.

Full HD Gaming PC — 800€

In the space of a few years, Full HD (or 1080p) resolution has gone from the stage of technological innovation to that of a minimum union. That said, it’s not always clear to guarantee the 60 frames per second dear to the hearts of many players. We try to achieve this with this price-balanced configuration despite any content.

This time we climb to a 1660 Ti, to be sure to have good comfort in Full HD with the high graphics options. We also change from two 480 GB SSDs to a single 960 GB SSD (the same for other configs). We keep a Ryzen 5 2600 despite the Core i5-9400F, which does not offer enough scalability.

WQHD Gaming PC — 1000€

Since Full HD (or 1080p) is somehow becoming the union minimum, it is the WQHD (or 1440p) that gradually becomes the norm in the world of video game. A standard that obviously requires a slightly stronger machine. Our reference configuration takes into account this additional power requirement.

We finally move to the Ryzen 3000 with the 3600, unbeatable in this sector. We will even allow itself to cool it well with a not too expensive AiO. We add a DRAM adapted in DDR4-3600. For the graphics card, big hesitation between RTX 2060 Super or Radeon RX 5700. We still opt for the 5700, much cheaper and almost as powerful, despite its blower…

Gaming PC WQHD 100Hz /FHD 144Hz: 1300€

Following the duplication of the WQHD configuration, we offer here a more muscular version to exploit high-end displays. The WQHD remains stuck, but this time targets 100 fps, while the FHD will go up even more high. We therefore need more efficient components and, logically, a significantly larger budget.

The Core i5-9600K processor is kept as the basis for this configuration not to be limited by the CPU, which becomes crucial to push IPS to the maximum. Especially since it is now cheaper! We take the opportunity to improve its cooling. And we’re moving on a Radeon RX 5700 XT, much cheaper than the 2070 Super and almost as powerful. We also change the case for a must-have model, and we take a slightly more powerful power.

PC Gamer Ultra HD — 1703€

Fantasy for many players, the 4K (or Ultra HD) is an increasingly accessible dream. Of course, to play in good conditions in 3840 x 2160, we must give ourselves the means, especially since we do not consider such a definition of image by cropping on the level of detail or the speed of animation: ultra mode and 60 frames per second rigor.

To play in 4K at 60 fps (or a little more), the Ryzen 5 3600 will be quite enough. So we move on to AMD’s latest platform, with an X570 motherboard to ensure the evolution to the next CPUs of the brand, increasingly promising.

Passive HTPC — 500€

Our HTPC configuration is meant to be in the living room. So we focused our efforts on the issue of noise pollution to achieve a solution without the slightest fan. Obviously don’t hope for leading performance for video games, but you’ll have everything you need to play 4K videos in the best conditions.

Our goal here is to offer a completely silent configuration. We move this time to an Athlon 220GE, cheaper and still enough. We also sacrifice SilverStone NightJar passive power supply at the end of life and too expensive, in favor of a semi-passive up to 135 W charge, twice as expensive.
